VRBO Q&A
Q:
how do I speak to a customer service representative who speaks clear english and knows how to handle issues ?
Dont even bother trying VRBO SUCKS at Customer service. THey pass you off to a homeowner, who mostly uses VRBO to help. Its a huge circle of getting no where. VRBO passes the buck and is USELESS in terms of customer service.

I have had the same problem on more than one occasion! Not only are they difficult to understand, but they are incredibly rude as well! I am so disenchanted with VRBO and their lack of customer service, which use to be impeccable! Most definitely looking to list our properties elsewhere.

Q:
I was considering placing my rental property on VRBO but given the negative reviews I am hesitant. What is VRBO doing to remedy the complaints?
VRBO is horrible towards Owners with their only interest is you accepting all bookings, good and bad so they get their commissions. They are rude and tell you this is the way it is and will not change for you.

I agree with the owners comments. VRBO's mentality is so dumb. They try to get us to think our properties should be managed like hotels. Our houses are individual and special (at least most of the properties are). They are not beehives. It's insulting to owners when VRBO flashes a photo of another property that beat our property out of a rental. Frankly my dear I don't give a d@&$ who beats me out of a booking. Because people on vacation have different needs and wants, another house that beats my property is ok with me. It's also important to those owners who are respectable that guests are happy with their selections. Happy guests and happy owners. That's what is important. Maybe we should all get together and form our own company!

Absolutely nothing! Every change they make results in their making more money and owners making less. My bookings are down drastically. I would not sign up with VRBO.

Q:
What is the best listing level to choose as a first time user
Thanks for the suggestion. We have been using VRBO.com for several years, but we are actively looking for another way of renting our vacation homes.

DO NOT USE VRBO - they cannot be trusted, they changed the terms and conditions and there is nothing you can do about it. Alternative like home escape and Vacation Home Rental which I highly recommend.

Go with the standard listing if you have already paid. If not save your money and try homeescape.com. Homeaway/VRBO rolled out a new 9% service fee charged to your customers in addition to what you're already paying for. They did this without any warning to their customers. I found out after one of my repeat guests questioned the charge. I'm moving away from them and going with other options.

Q:
What is the downside of listing with vrbo. We just listed but since we own at a timeshare don't always have the times travelers want. It took be a longtime to get someone to rent with us.
HomeAway allowed review from someone and it was totally false. I have proof. HomeAway removed the review but VRBO left it on their site. They will not even speak to the owner about this. I would run from this place. I have advised my rental management company not to rent my place through them anymore. The absolute worst customer service.

Be careful listing with VRBO as they do not care about Owners and the well being of their properties. Customer service can be rude as well. They only want your money by accepting all booking requests although it could cause you grief with the wrong guests.

I agree with all of these complaints. I am a home owner and pay a yearly fee to VRBO, now owned by Home Away and now by Expedia. This year and last they began charging the renter an extra fee of $270 a week for nothing and then dinged me $135 for getting me a renter even though I already pay them an annual advertising fee. I will not be using them again but instead will be using AirB&B. Person to person works well; both parties pay less.

We paid a deposit in a large house in Belize... supposed to be going there in 3 weeks with large family. Cannot get a response from owner. What should we do?
A: NEVER, EVER DEAL WITH ANY OWNERS OR PROPERTY MANAGERS THAT YOU HAVENT SPOKEN TO DIRECTLY. NEVER use any form of payment other than credit card. All CC's would refund you the money if you don't get the services. If they don't accept cards or allow payment through Homeaway, FIND ANOTHER PROPERTY OWNER WHO WILL or be prepared to take the chance. READ all reviews, if they don't have any you ARE taking a chance it's a scam or a dump (or a new property but be careful. NEVER make a large deposit EVER! VRBO has turned out to be reliable for us, never used Flipkey and AirBnB wouldn't use it - I want a large property not a room room share

Reviews don't always tell the whole story. We had a host cancel one month after accepting our deposit. Our money was promptly refunded, however, all of the other properties which interested us in the area close to our event booked during the month we thought we had a reservation. We were unable to leave a review on the VRBO site because we had not stayed at the property. I am unlikely to rent through VRBO in the future as a hosts history of cancellation will not be reflected in the reviews.

This happened to me until my payment was due. I was unable to reach anyone from VRBO. I emailed, left messages and nothing. They were more than happy to take my money though. Make sure you have proper documentation because that's the only way we got our money back. I disputed this with my bank, We did not get what we paid for. I will never use this site again.
